– The universe
As the pandemic continues without a defined timeline or end in sight, the stay at home orders being implemented make things appear as though things are getting harder. When this happens, every step one takes towards day to day survival is the biggest victory.
With restricted movements and the colder days, it’s a good time of the year to have a personal home detox program. Here are a few suggestions:
1. Flax seed smoothies to increase fiber in diet- goal is to have 2-3 bowel movements as it’s the best detox
Recipe– 2 tablespoons freshly grounded flax seeds + 1 table spoon chia seeds+1/2 cup organic berries + 1 cup unsweetened oat/nut/soy milk+ filtered water to desired consistency. Blend well and have it immediately.
2. Dry skin brushing – stimulates the lymphatic system to expel toxins through the skin.
Buy a long handled, natural bristle brush, with a brush pad about the size of your own hand. Start with the soles of your feet. Brush in a circular motion as you move up your body, feet to legs, hands to arms, back to abdomen, and chest to neck. The face and inner thighs are sensitive areas and can be avoided. Brush with as much pressure as is comfortably possible until your skin feels pleasantly warm (this is usually about five to 10 minutes). The massage is best performed when you rise in the morning. Follow with a cold shower as it stimulates the immune system.
3. Sweat every day – Engage in any activity that is enjoyable and makes you sweat. Toxins are eliminated through sweat, make sure to take a shower immediately or else toxins are reabsorbed through skin. Dance to your favorite playlist, jump on a rebounder, yoga, play with your furry friends or kids.
4. Detox your mind – Practice spending time with yourself- connecting to one’s breath, thoughts and emotions as a neutral observor. This connects to present moment which builds grit, strength in these challenging times and alleviates worry of the unknown.
Present moment awareness – slows one down, brings magic to routines as every moment is experienced fresh. Once you stop rushing through life, you will be amazed at how much more life has to offer. Most importantly, if you are exhausted – rest. If you don’t feel like doing anything – allow yourself to do nothing. You are enough, simply in your being. I hope you fall in love with being alive, I hope that the sunshine, the cool breeze touches your soul.
Blessings and light,
